Watches: KELLY SLATER AND SHAPER DAN THOMSON TALK SURFBOARD VOODOO. “Look at the common things with unusual eyes!”
Three months ago, BeachGrit introduced Slater Designs Cymatic to you through Stephen “Longtom” Shearer.
As he wrote at the time, “Cymatic’s learning curve is steep and steep. But somehow it starts to make sense. The hull is so sensitive, even the fins are quadrilateral, and the body has to ride to the level of relaxation and Sensitivity. Any nervous or inappropriate physical positioning will be cruelly punished. You don’t want to get where you need it, you think it and the board will go there.”
In the 15-minute video in 2017, we found that Lennox Head molding machine Daniel Thomson introduced Kelly Slater to the prototype of the surfboard that will become Cymatic. Fifteen minutes is an investment in hell, but covering the volume, the length is relatively unimportant (in the surfboard), the natural flow of the channel’s position and the depth of the recess makes the surfboard design nerd in a state of ecstasy.
Take the eye mask down and watch it.
